A century of blaugrana on the track

Before the football club became a state of mind, FC Barcelona was already running. The club's athletics section was formally created in 1915 — with track activity documented back to 1900 — and it has spent a century as one of the strongest club programmes in Spain: fifteen men's national outdoor club titles between 1958 and 1986, nineteen indoor titles between 1982 and 2022, and first women's titles outdoors (2021) and indoors (2017).

It trains between the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper and the Joan Serrahima stadium on Montjuïc, and its vest has been worn by Spanish athletics royalty — José Manuel Abascal, Javier García Chico, Antonio Corgos — long before its current era.

The triple jump era

The current era has a shape, and it is a triangle drawn in sand. The tape above holds it: FC Barcelona's roster today owns the women's triple jump world record and the third-longest men's jump ever recorded.

Yulimar Rojas joined in November 2016 and became the greatest women's triple jumper there has been: world record holder at 15.74 m, with the championship titles she won for Venezuela — in federation kit, told in her country's story — stacked behind it. An Achilles rupture took away two full seasons; she came back in 2025 to 14.76 in the Tokyo final, and in March 2025 the club renewed her through the end of 2026.

Jordan Díaz arrived from the Cuban system and, in 2024, delivered the club a season for the ages: 18.18 m in Rome — the third-longest jump in history — and 17.86 in Paris, both won for Spain in federation kit. He trains with Iván Pedroso and jumps in bla­ugrana.

The kit: a football crest on a start line

The kit follows the club. Nike has dressed FC Barcelona since 1998, and in December 2024 the members' assembly ratified a renewal through 2038 — a deal that keeps the technical apparel of the club, sections included, under the swoosh. What that looks like on a track is in the archive: a 2022 distance singlet and a 2025 women's crop, both in the red-blue-gold the football shirts made famous, both athlete issue rather than shop stock.

The honest footnote, as always: the published Nike–Barça agreement is a club-wide one covering technical apparel; neither party writes specifically about the athletics section's competition kit. The garments are the citable evidence of how it lands on the team.

The section in 2026

A century in, the section's present tense is unusually bright: the two best triple jumpers in club history are both under its crest right now, one holding the world record and the other the third-longest jump ever. What the roster does next — and whether the club's title count moves again — is a story the record books will write; our job here is the wardrobe.
