The 2024 season in short
Great Britain's 2024 season came to a head over ten days in Paris. The team left the Stade de France with ten athletics medals — one gold, four silver, five bronze — its best Olympic track-and-field haul since Los Angeles 1984, by Team GB's own count.
It was built on two things: middle-distance running and relay depth. Keely Hodgkinson won the 800m; Josh Kerr and Georgia Hunter Bell medalled in the 1500m; and Britain reached the podium in all five relays — a feat few nations have ever managed at a single Games.
Paris: a gold and five relays
The gold, and the engine of the haul, was two- and four-lap running.
Keely Hodgkinson led the 800m final from the front and won in 1:56.72 — after Olympic silver in Tokyo and world silvers in 2022 and 2023, she finally converted. She is the third British woman to win the Olympic 800m, after Ann Packer in 1964 and Dame Kelly Holmes in 2004, and the first since Holmes. In the 1500m, Josh Kerr took silver in a British record 3:27.79 and Georgia Hunter Bell bronze in a British record 3:52.61.
Matthew Hudson-Smith ran a European record 43.44 in the 400m and lost gold by four hundredths to Quincy Hall. Katarina Johnson-Thompson took heptathlon silver — her first Olympic medal at a fourth Games — behind Nafi Thiam.
And then the relays. Britain medalled in all five: women's 4×100m silver, and bronze in the men's 4×100m, the men's 4×400m (a European record 2:55.83), the women's 4×400m (a British record 3:19.72) and the mixed 4×400m. Half of the ten Paris medals came from relay squads — the chart below shows the clean sweep.

The British team raced Paris in the Great Britain Pro Elite 2024 cycle — the race-issued kit made for the athletes on the team, not a retail line with a badge on it.
What “Pro Elite” means here. Pro Elite pieces are issued to the athletes through the team channel: cut, weight and finishing specified for competition, in a run limited to what the squad receives. When a piece leaves that channel it is not replaced.
