A club from a brasserie

In 1943, in a Montreuil under German occupation, a tavern keeper named Jean Delbert gathered friends from his brasserie, Le Régent, and founded a multi-sport club in the Grands Pêchers quarter. It stayed. Eighty years on, the Club Athlétique de Montreuil 93 still trains in the same corner of Seine-Saint-Denis, its stadium carries the founder's name, and more than 800 members — some 500 of them kids — wear its colours.

What grew out of that brasserie is, by the trophy count, the most decorated club in French athletics: twenty national Interclubs titles, won not from a capital-city super-structure but from a suburb that keeps producing runners, jumpers and throwers at every level.

The streak: twenty titles

The Interclubs is French athletics' oldest argument: every club's full squad, every event, one weekend, one points total. The chart above shows what Montreuil did to it. From 1997 — the first year the men and women won together — the club took fourteen consecutive national titles, a run no one has matched, then kept adding: 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019, and titles nineteen and twenty in 2023 and 2024.

The present is tighter. In 2025 the title went to Franconville's EFCVO with Montreuil fourth, hurt by two disqualifications; in the 2026 finale — staged, fittingly, in Montreuil — the Stade Bordelais won its first-ever title with the hosts second at 68,064 points. Until that afternoon, no club outside Montreuil or Franconville had won since the mixed rankings began in 2006. The streak era is over; the club is still on the podium.

Jazy to Vicaut: the names in the vest

The vest has history sewn into it. Michel Jazy set nine world records in Montreuil colours in the 1950s and 60s, along with seventeen European and forty-three French ones. Roger Bambuck arrived in 1965 and, in Mexico in 1968, equalled the 100 m world record in the heats and ran the relay for France. Françoise Mbango Etone, Teddy Tamgho and Antoinette Nana Djimou took global and European titles for their countries in the 2000s and 2010s — in federation kit, with this vest for the club season.

And the sprinters kept coming. Jimmy Vicaut ran 9.95 for the club in the 2014 Interclubs finale — then the second-fastest time in the world that year — and his 9.86 stood as the shared European 100 m record until 2021. Today's squad lists names like steeplechaser Alice Finot and long jumper Yanis David. The club's own history page claims Vicaut's record as a house achievement, which tells you how Montreuil thinks about its athletes: the club is the constant, the stars pass through.

The kit: 2023, the year of title nineteen

The archive's two Montreuil pieces come from the 2023 season — the year of title nineteen: a lightweight training jacket and a tee, both in the club's colours, both from the team channel rather than any shop.

On the maker, the archive's usual honesty: the club's own site once carried a “CAM93 by Nike” merchandise category, but that page no longer resolves and no formal partnership is documented anywhere citable. The swoosh on these garments is, once again, the evidence itself. A club whose kit is made for 800 licence holders in one suburb does not produce much of it — and none of it twice.
