2025
A comeback gold in Apeldoorn, a second consecutive double double in Tokyo, and a 23-year-old bronze medallist walking in the queen's footsteps: Spain's 2025, ring by ring.
Spain's 2025 season peaked in Tokyo, where María Pérez won both walking titles again — the 35 km in 2:39:01 and the 20 km in 1:25:54 — completing the second consecutive double double in history, with Paul McGrath's 20 km bronze beside her and a generation of fourth places knocking.
This is the year in full: Peleteiro's Apeldoorn gold and second maternity pause, Madrid's home team championships, the Tokyo target ring by ring — and an honest note on what the 2025 rail holds.

The Spring Before Tokyo
Spain's 2025 opened indoors in Apeldoorn with four European medals — led by a comeback completed. Ana Peleteiro, two years on from her first maternity return, won the European indoor triple jump title at 14.37, the continental lead. Around her: silver for the 4×400 quartet (Fernández, Guijarro, Husillos, Erta) in a Spanish record 3:05.18 — Husillos's medal collection still growing seven years after Birmingham — and bronzes for Paula Sevilla over 400 and Lester Lescay in the long jump.

In June, Madrid hosted the European Team Championships First Division; Spain finished sixth as hosts, six and a half points from fourth, in the meet Italy won. And in July the season lost its jumper: Peleteiro announced her second pregnancy and sat out the Worlds.
The Tokyo Target
Tokyo made María Pérez something no walker — no athlete — had ever been. Gold in the 35 km on 13 September in 2:39:01; gold in the 20 km a week later in 1:25:54: the second consecutive double double, after Budapest 2023. Four individual world titles now — close to half of Spain's eleven outdoor world golds in history belong to her.

The medal beside hers announced the succession: Paul McGrath, 23, took bronze in the 20 km on the same morning Pérez won it — the Spanish walking school renewing itself in real time. And one ring out, a generation kept knocking: Quique Llopis fourth in the hurdles by three hundredths, Mariano García fourth in the 800, Mohamed Attaoui fifth in 1:42.21, Adrián Ben and Lescay in their finals. Spain left Tokyo with three medals, and with the clear sense of more coming.
The Kit Question of 2025
The federation kit of 2025 was Joma, as it has been every season since 2009. The one 2025-dated piece in the Spain rail of this archive is a different animal, and we label it honestly: a Nike crop top issued to FC Barcelona's athletics section — club kit, not federation kit. It sits in the Spain collection because that is where the store files Spanish team garments; it is not what Pérez wore in Tokyo.
Joma has dressed the Spanish federation since 2009 — every season in this series was raced in Joma. No federation piece of the 2025 allocation has reached the archive yet — current-cycle kit is always the last to escape. The rail below shows what the Spain collection holds from this season today.
The full story of the walking dynasty — and everything before it — is in our history of athletics in Spain.

Spain 2025
What the Spain rail holds from 2025 today: a Nike crop issued to FC Barcelona's athletics section — club kit, filed under Spain, labelled honestly as such. Federation pieces from a current cycle are always the last to escape the team channel.
What did María Pérez achieve at the Tokyo 2025 Worlds?
Both walking golds again: the 35 km on 13 September in 2:39:01 and the 20 km on the 20th in 1:25:54. After Budapest 2023, it is the second consecutive 20-and-35 double — no athlete had ever done it twice — and takes her to four individual world titles.
Who is Paul McGrath?
The 23-year-old heir of the Spanish walking school: bronze in the Tokyo 2025 20 km walk in 1:18:45, on the same morning Pérez won the race — Spain's third medal of those championships.
Why did Ana Peleteiro miss the Tokyo Worlds?
She announced her second pregnancy in July 2025, months after winning the European indoor triple jump title in Apeldoorn at 14.37 — her second comeback gold.
Is the 2025 piece in the Spain rail federation kit?
No, and we label it honestly: it is a Nike crop issued to FC Barcelona's athletics section — club kit filed under the Spain collection. The federation raced 2025 in Joma, its supplier since 2009; no federation piece of the current cycle has escaped yet.
