Nike Pro Elite · 2009 season

The Oldest Cycle in the Archive

In 2009 the top of the sport was still the Golden League: six meetings, one million dollars for anyone who won their event at all six. Three athletes did it, and two of them raced in Nike. Sanya Richards went six for six over 400 m — 49.57 in Berlin on 14 June, then Oslo, Rome and Paris, 48.94 in Zürich, and 48.83 in Brussels on 4 September, the fastest time run by anyone that year. Kenenisa Bekele, a Nike athlete for more than two decades, matched her over 5000 m and closed Brussels in 12:55.31. They shared the jackpot with Yelena Isinbayeva, $333,333 each.

The roads gave the Nike season its most American moment. On 1 November, Meb Keflezighi — a Nike athlete then, two years before the brand let his contract lapse and Skechers picked him up — won the New York City Marathon in 2:09:15, the first American man to do it since Alberto Salazar in 1982.

The garment · Half Tights

Mid-thigh compression

Half tights are fitted compression shorts ending at mid-thigh, worn as the outer racing garment by sprinters and, increasingly, elite marathoners. They exist for fit — zero loose fabric, zero chafe, a locked-in feel from the blocks — not for proven speed.

That last part matters: across 51 randomized studies, compression garments show no significant effect on race times. What they measurably do is damp muscle vibration while you run and nudge recovery afterwards. The rest of their argument is made of fit, and it is a good argument.

Performance effect
None proven — 51-study meta-analysis: no change in race time
What compression does
Reduces muscle vibration; small recovery benefit (ES 0.38)
Fabric
Verified: 83/17 poly-spandex (Nike Fast); 62/38 nylon-elastane (Tracksmith)

Questions we get asked

Is Nike Pro Elite Team 2009 Women Short Tights authentic?
Yes. It is listed as 100% authentic team-issued kit, from the 2009 season. Every photo on this page is of the actual piece, never a stock shot. Want a closer look at something first? Ask us.
What condition is it in?
It is listed as: Excellent condition. The photos are of this exact piece, so what you see is what arrives. Ask us before buying if you want more detail on its state.
How does this half tight fit?
Half tights are mid-thigh compression. They should feel firm; a loose pair is the wrong size. This one is a Nike XS. The size guide lists the body measurements Nike publishes for that size. And it is the only size there is – every piece here is a one-off.
Can I return it if the size is wrong?
Yes. You have 14 days from delivery: send it back unworn, unwashed and with the numbered authentication tag still attached. Return shipping is on you unless the piece arrived damaged, incorrect or not as described. What we cannot do is swap it for another size – every piece is one of a kind, so there is no second one to send. If you have any doubt about the fit, ask us first.
Where does it ship from and how long does it take?
From Switzerland, tracked, worldwide. Free over €150. We pack it in 1–3 business days, then reckon on 3–7 days within Europe and 7–21 for the rest of the world. Customs duties are separate and are not covered.
