WHAT INGEBRIGTSEN
WEARS

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a Nike athlete who has never won a title in Nike clothing. Norway's kit was Puma, and is now adidas, so his medals and his records come in different brands. Here is the full wardrobe, the spikes, and the Nike athlete issue you can own.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is sponsored by Nike, in a deal first reported in February 2018, when he was 17. At Diamond League meetings he races in full Nike kit. At championships he wears Norway's national kit, which has never been made by Nike in his senior career: it was Puma from 2018 to 2024 and has been adidas since 2025. Only his spikes stay Nike.

So his Olympic and world titles were won in Puma or adidas clothing, and his five world records and bests in Nike. On the track he uses the Nike Victory 2 for the 1500 m and the Dragonfly 2 for the 5000 m, and in May 2025 Nike released a retail collection under his name that includes both.

This post is part of our About the Athletes series. For the brand behind him read The History of Nike Pro Elite, for the garment he prefers The Speedsuit, or jump straight to the Nike athlete issue in the archive.

Nike on his feet, someone else on his chest

Ingebrigtsen has been a Nike athlete since he was 17. He has never won a championship medal in Nike clothing. Puma signed the Norwegian federation on 26 February 2018, three weeks after his own Nike deal was reported, and kept it through 2024. On 20 December 2024 the federation announced adidas from 2025, on a deal described as covering two Olympic cycles. So every title from the 2018 Europeans to the Paris Olympics was won with a Puma cat on his chest, and everything since in three stripes.

That includes the Olympic Games. Norway's Olympic committee has a clothing contract with Craft that runs from 2023 to 2028, but it covers ceremony and leisure wear. The race kit comes from the athletics federation's supplier, and Puma's own newsroom lists Norway among the federations it dressed in Tokyo. His Olympic 1500 m title of 2021 was won in Puma.

There is a small irony in the paperwork. The Puma deal of 2018 and the adidas deal of 2024 were fronted by the same Norwegian executive, Bjørn Gulden, quoted as chief executive of Puma in the first announcement and of adidas in the second. The colours changed with the brands: white and blue in 2018 and 2019, royal blue in 2022 and 2023, red in the first adidas year, dark navy in 2026. The federation side of this is in The History of Athletics in Norway.

Full Nike: where the records come from

The records happen somewhere else. At Diamond League meetings there is no national kit, and he runs in Nike from neck to spike plate. All five of his world marks were set that way: two miles in Paris and 2000 m in Brussels in 2023, the 3000 m in 7:17.55 in Silesia in 2024, which took down a record from 1996, and the indoor 1500 and mile in one race in Liévin in February 2025. All five still stand.

His Nike kit also has a habit the national one cannot have. At Lausanne in 2022, at Bislett and Silesia in 2024, and in the Copenhagen half marathon that September, he wore a plain olive to bronze suit while the other Nike athletes in the same races wore that season's patterned issue. That is our reading of the photographs; Nike has said nothing about it. At Zürich in August 2026 he was back in the same pattern as another Nike runner, so the private colour is not permanent.

The shape is older than the colour. He races in a one-piece or a cropped two-piece where most distance runners wear a loose singlet, and he told Nike's own magazine why: “My friends were wearing flip-flops. I was wearing a speed suit.” Norwegian television was describing his older brother Henrik's speedsuit and sunglasses as a deliberate tactic in 2013. The sunglasses never passed down. In the Budapest photograph the man wearing them is his rival. We cover the garment in The Speedsuit and the meeting in The Bislett Games and the Dream Mile.

The deal: signed at 17

Norwegian television reported on 4 February 2018 that the 17-year-old had signed with Nike on a deal running to 2024; the family confirmed the signing and no figure. After the Tokyo title the contract was extended and improved, which his agent confirmed without numbers. A Norwegian report that September spoke of an option through 2032. That is a newspaper's account of an option. Nike has never confirmed a length or a value.

What Nike does say is that he is one of its athletes, that he broke four minutes for the mile at 16, and that the three Ingebrigtsen brothers were among the pacemakers at Breaking2 in 2017. In May 2025 it gave him a retail collection, which is covered below.

04

The spikes

The Telegraph's survey of spikes at the Paris Olympics gives his choice plainly: the Victory 2 over 1500 m, because he finds it faster, and the more stable Dragonfly 2 for the 5000 and for much of his training. Both are on the World Athletics approved list from April 2024, and both carry his name in the 2025 collection. One specialist review says he also used the Victory 2 in the Paris 5000 final; we could not settle that.

Colours we can vouch for, models we cannot: white in Doha in 2019, volt yellow in Munich in 2022, pink in Budapest in 2023, orange in Paris in 2024, white with a blue swoosh for the 3000 record. In March 2024 he posted training pictures in blacked-out shoes with no logo, and his manager told Norwegian media they were an unreleased prototype. And at the 2025 World Championships, his brother told NBC, the Achilles hurt so much that he raced without socks. The categories are explained in Middle Distance Spikes and Distance Spikes.

05

Where he stands

He hurt his left Achilles in April 2025, did not race outdoors before the Tokyo World Championships, and went out in the heats of the 1500 there before finishing tenth in the 5000. The problem flared again in January 2026 and he had surgery in the United States; the BBC reported that it removed scar tissue from the sheath around the tendon, not the tendon. His brother told NBC it was a last resort.

He came back on 10 August 2026 and won the European 5000 m in Birmingham in his first race of the year, a fourth straight title at the distance. He was fourth, fifth and fourth in three Diamond League 1500s, won the 5000 at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest in 12:59.24 with a 54-second last lap, and on his 26th birthday took silver in the world road 5 km in Copenhagen in 12:59, a Norwegian record.

Two things he no longer has. Josh Kerr ran a 3:42.66 mile in London in July 2026, a world record pending ratification, which took the European record with it, and Andreas Almgren's 12:44.27 has been the European 5000 record since 2025. Of his three European records only the 1500, 3:26.73, is still his.

What you can and cannot buy

In May 2025 Nike released a collection under his name: a Pegasus 41, a Zoom Fly 6, a Vaporfly 4, and the two spikes he races in, the Victory 2 at US$190 and the Dragonfly 2 Elite at US$200, in sail and ash with metallic gold, five Nordic stars on the insoles. By September 2026 most of it had gone from Nike's own stores, though the standard colours of both spikes are ordinary retail shoes.

What we could not find for sale, anywhere, is the clothing. There is no retail listing for the olive Nike suit or for the patterned Nike issue he wore at Zürich, and none for the Norway competition kit from Puma or adidas. The Craft Olympic collection was sold to the public, and it is leisure wear.

Athlete issue is what this archive holds. Neither of these was his, and neither was made for a shop. They are the one-piece cut he has raced in since he was a child, from two Nike seasons.

None of these pieces was made for Ingebrigtsen, and none was made for a shop. They are Nike athlete issue from the seasons he has been racing in it, in stock first, with sold-out pieces left in place because nothing here restocks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who sponsors Jakob Ingebrigtsen?

Nike. The deal was reported on 4 February 2018, when he was 17, and extended in 2021. Its length and value have never been confirmed by Nike.

Why does Jakob Ingebrigtsen wear Puma or adidas at championships?

Because Norway's national kit is supplied by the athletics federation's partner, not by his own sponsor. That partner was Puma from 2018 to 2024 and has been adidas since 2025. World Athletics rules let him keep his Nike spikes.

What spikes does Jakob Ingebrigtsen wear?

Nike. According to the Telegraph he uses the Victory 2 for the 1500 m and the Dragonfly 2 for the 5000 m and for much of his training. Both are on the World Athletics approved list, and both appear in his 2025 retail collection.

Which world records does Jakob Ingebrigtsen hold?

Five marks, all still standing in September 2026: the 2000 m (4:43.13), the 3000 m (7:17.55), the two-mile world best (7:54.10), and the indoor 1500 m (3:29.63) and indoor mile (3:45.14). All were set at invitational meetings in Nike kit.

Does Jakob Ingebrigtsen have his own Nike collection?

Yes. Nike released a collection under his name on 15 May 2025 with five shoes, including the Victory 2 and Dragonfly 2 Elite spikes, plus apparel. By September 2026 most of it had sold through at Nike's own stores.

Can you buy the kit Jakob Ingebrigtsen races in?

We found no retail listing for his Nike race suits or for the Norway competition kit made by Puma or adidas. His spikes are retail models, and athlete-issue Nike kit from other seasons reaches the collector market only when it leaves the team channel.
