The 2019 season in short
Great Britain won five medals at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha — two gold and three silver — and finished sixth in the medal table. Every one of them came from the sprints or the heptathlon, and three of the five belonged to one athlete.
Doha was a strange championships to win anything at. It ran from 27 September to 6 October, pushed late into the year and indoors into an air-conditioned stadium because of the Qatari heat. The British results held up regardless.
Doha: three medals for one athlete
Dina Asher-Smith became the first British athlete to win three medals at a single World Championships. She took silver in the 100m in 10.83, won the 200m in 21.88, and added a second silver in the 4×100m relay alongside Asha Philip, Ashleigh Nelson and Daryll Neita.
Both of her individual marks were British records. The 21.88 in the 200m still is. So is the 10.83 in the 100m — a British record, though not a European one: that mark belongs to Christine Arron, who ran 10.73 in 1998.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson won the heptathlon with 6981 points, a British record and the only other individual British gold of the championships. She went on to win the title again in 2023 and to take Olympic silver in Paris in 2024.

The fifth medal was the men's 4×100m relay. Adam Gemili, Zharnel Hughes, Richard Kilty and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake ran 37.36 for silver — a European record that has still not been beaten.

The kit: Nike Great Britain Pro Elite 2019
The British team raced 2019 in the Nike Great Britain Pro Elite 2019 cycle — kit issued through the team channel to athletes and staff, made for competition rather than retail.
One piece in this rail is not Great Britain. Alongside the GB pieces sits a New Balance England Pro Elite 2019 shirt. England Athletics is a separate federation with its own supplier, so that piece belongs to the England set-up, not the British team that raced in Doha. We keep it labelled as what it is.
The 2019 British rail leans towards the training and travel end of a championship kit — warm-up and training tops, a half-zip jersey, the Storm jacket, Therma pants, capri long tights and a training singlet. These are the pieces a squad lives in across a ten-day championships.

Five: two gold and three silver, which placed Great Britain and Northern Ireland sixth in the Doha medal table.
What did Dina Asher-Smith win in Doha?
Three medals — gold in the 200m (21.88), silver in the 100m (10.83) and silver in the 4×100m relay. She was the first British athlete to win three medals at a single World Championships.
Is Dina Asher-Smith's 21.88 still the British record?
Yes. The 21.88 she ran to win the 200m in Doha remains the British record, as does her 10.83 in the 100m. The 10.83 is a British record and not a European one — the European record is Christine Arron's 10.73 from 1998.
Is the British 4×100m relay time of 37.36 still a European record?
Yes. The 37.36 run by Gemili, Hughes, Kilty and Mitchell-Blake for silver in Doha is still the European record for the men's 4×100m relay.
Why is there a New Balance England piece in a Great Britain collection?
Because England Athletics is a separate federation from British Athletics and has had its own kit supplier. The New Balance England Pro Elite 2019 piece comes from the England set-up, not the British team that competed in Doha, and we label it that way.
