Nike Pro Elite
2022

Three athlete-issue pieces from the 2022 cycle live in our archive — the season of Kipchoge's last world record, Kipyegon's 3:50.37 and two American records for the Bowerman club, in the burgundy kit.

Nike Pro Elite 2022 is the 2022 generation of Nike's athlete-issue competition kit: burgundy and maroon with a bright-red waistband, issued to contracted athletes and never sold at retail.

This page reads the team's season first — Tokyo, Berlin and the splits of 2:01:09, then the circuit — then how to recognise the cycle, and every piece of it in our archive.

The Year of 2:01:09

The 2022 cycle belongs to one man's two marathons. On 6 March Eliud Kipchoge won Tokyo in 2:02:40, a course record. On 25 September he went back to Berlin, where he had set the world record four years earlier, and took it down by thirty seconds: 2:01:09. He passed 5 km in 14:14 and halfway in 59:51 — a first half that pointed at 1:59 — lost his last pacemaker at 25 km, and ran the final seventeen kilometres alone to a second half of 1:01:18. Mark Korir was second, nearly five minutes back. It was the second world record run in this kit's colours on that road, and the last one Kipchoge would set.

On the track the cycle's fastest Nike mark was Faith Kipyegon's 3:50.37 for 1500 m in Monaco on 10 August — then the second-fastest ever run, a year before her own records began — and she closed the season by winning the Diamond League final in Zürich, where Beatrice Chebet of the Nike-outfitted Rosa & Co stable took the 5000 m title. Grant Fisher of the Bowerman Track Club, Nike's Oregon distance group, set two American records in one season: 26:33.84 for 10,000 m at San Juan Capistrano on 6 March and 12:46.96 for 5000 m in Brussels on 2 September.

The roads produced one more time that belongs to the cycle, with its provenance attached. On 9 October in Chicago, Ruth Chepngetich — Nike, through Rosa & Co — ran 2:14:18, then the second-fastest marathon by a woman, fourteen seconds outside the world record. In October 2025 she was banned for three years by the Athletics Integrity Unit after a positive test earlier that year; the 2022 result stands, as run, and the ban is part of how this archive reads it.

The Eugene World Championships that July — the first on US soil — were raced in federation kit: Team USA's record medal haul in the Nike kit of USATF and Kenya's in the Nike kit of Athletics Kenya live in our country pages, not here.

The Kit of the Cycle

The 2022 cycle is the quietest palette of the modern era: burgundy and maroon bases, a bright-red waistband on the racing shorts, and sheer-stripe knit crops. Blink and it reads almost retail — until you feel the cloth weight.

Construction follows the athlete-issue rules our authentication guide covers: competition-weight cloth, race cuts, no retail run. “Pro Elite” is the athlete-channel label collectors use — the programme Nike itself keeps off the shelves. Federation kit is a different contract: what USATF or Athletics Kenya wear at a Worlds lives in our country pages, not here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nike Pro Elite 2022 kit?

The 2022 generation of Nike athlete-issue kit — burgundy and maroon, a bright-red waistband, sheer-stripe knit crops — issued to contracted athletes through the athlete channel only.

What did Kipchoge run in 2022?

Two marathons, both wins: Tokyo on 6 March in 2:02:40, a course record, and Berlin on 25 September in 2:01:09, a world record thirty seconds under his own 2018 mark. He passed halfway in 59:51, lost his last pacemaker at 25 km and ran the rest alone.

Is 2:01:09 still the world record?

No. Kelvin Kiptum ran 2:00:35 in Chicago in October 2023, and Sabastian Sawe ran 1:59:30 in London in April 2026, the first ratified sub-two-hour marathon. Berlin 2022 was the last world record Kipchoge set.

What else did Nike athletes run in 2022?

Faith Kipyegon's 3:50.37 for 1500 m in Monaco and her Diamond League final win in Zürich; Beatrice Chebet's Diamond League 5000 m title; Grant Fisher's American records of 26:33.84 and 12:46.96 for the Bowerman Track Club; and Ruth Chepngetich's 2:14:18 in Chicago, a result that stands although she was banned for three years in 2025.

How do I recognise a 2022 Pro Elite piece?

Burgundy and maroon bases with a bright-red waistband on the racing shorts and sheer-stripe knit crops — the most understated colourway of the modern cycles, in competition-weight cloth with race cuts.

What 2022 pieces does Elite Athletics Clothes carry?

Three athlete-issue pieces of the cycle, documented on this page with live stock and grouped by edition. Sold pieces stay listed; none restock.
