Nike Pro Elite 2024 is the 2024 generation of Nike's athlete-issue competition kit: dusk blue, plum and berry with volt accents, issued to contracted athletes for the Olympic season and never sold at retail.

The Kit Everyone Argued About
The 2024 generation had a launch, and the launch had an argument. On 11 April, at its Nike On Air show in Paris, Nike showed the Team USA track and field kit for the Olympic season — close to fifty pieces, twelve competition styles — and one of them, a women's unitard cut high enough on the mannequin to bare the hip, went around the world within hours. Lauren Fleshman called it a costume born of forces that no longer needed to be indulged to get eyes on women's sport; the steeplechaser Colleen Quigley said it was not made for performance. Nike's answer was the catalogue: athletes choose from the range, and pole vaulter Katie Moon, among others, said so publicly. The unitard was one option among twelve. It was also the first time in years that an athlete-issue kit had made the news for its cut.
Underneath the argument the cycle did what Nike cycles do: it went fast against the clock. Its two world records were run months before the Games, at the brand's own meeting in Eugene and on the Diamond League track in Paris — and they came off the book by very different amounts.

Eugene in May, Paris in July
At the Prefontaine Classic on 25 May, Beatrice Chebet — of the Nike-outfitted Rosa & Co stable — ran 10,000 m in 28:54.14, the first woman under 29 minutes, nearly seven seconds under Letesenbet Gidey's record; the same afternoon Sha'Carri Richardson, Nike since 2019, won the 100 m in 10.83 from Julien Alfred and Dina Asher-Smith. On 7 July at the Paris Diamond League, three weeks before the Games in the same city, Faith Kipyegon took her own 1500 m record from 3:49.11 to 3:49.04. In September both women closed the circuit at the Brussels final — Kipyegon the 1500 m in 3:54.75, Chebet the 5000 m in 14:09.82.
The year had opened with a shoe and a loss. On 4 January the Alphafly 3 went on sale in the “Prototype” colourway Kelvin Kiptum had worn to 2:00:35 in Chicago; on 11 February, five days after that record was ratified, Kiptum died in a road accident at 24. Eliud Kipchoge, 39, was tenth in Tokyo on 2 March in 2:06:50, the beginning of his last chapter.

The 2024 cycle runs dusk blue, plum and berry: ribbed tights and briefs with contrast waistbands, volt accents, a mint AeroSwift visor and the berry zip speedsuit — the most colour-saturated Pro Elite year since 2019. It is the athlete-issue version of the generation the Paris unitard belonged to.

What was the 2024 Nike kit controversy?
At the Nike On Air show in Paris on 11 April 2024 the brand unveiled its Team USA track kit, and a women's unitard cut high on the hip drew immediate criticism — Lauren Fleshman and Colleen Quigley among the loudest voices. Nike replied that athletes choose from twelve competition styles and close to fifty pieces, and several athletes, including Katie Moon, backed that up.
What records were run in Nike kit in 2024?
Beatrice Chebet's 28:54.14 for 10,000 m at the Prefontaine Classic on 25 May, the first woman under 29 minutes, and Faith Kipyegon's 3:49.04 for 1500 m at the Paris Diamond League on 7 July. Both have since been lowered again by the same two athletes, in 2025.
Why do the two records look so different on the chart?
Because of what they removed. Chebet took 6.89 seconds off the 10,000 m record; Kipyegon took seven hundredths off her own 1500 m mark. On one scale, one bar is long and the other is a sliver — that is the honest picture of the season.
