The Nike kit of the Italian agency that built Kenya's marathon machine — from a Brescia heart clinic to Discovery Kenya, from Tergat's 2:04:55 to Chebet and Kiplimo's records today. Team kit of a stable, never sold, rarely seen.
Nike Rosa & Co. Pro Elite kit is the team issue of Rosa Associati — the Italian management agency of Gabriele and Federico Rosa that has shaped Kenyan marathon running since 1991. Made by Nike for the group's athletes and camps, it has never been sold at retail.
This page covers the whole story: the Brescia cardiologist who became the father of Kenyan marathoning, Discovery Kenya and the Kapsait camp, Tanui and Tergat's records, the Majors machine, Kosgei and Chepngetich, the doping cases the record demands be told straight — and the three world records the group's athletes hold today.
Team-issued Rosa & Co. pieces from the 2019–2024 Nike cycles live in our archive. Jump to the collection or browse the full Rosa & Co. Pro Elite Team category.
The Rosa & Co. name on a Nike garment marks it as team kit of Rosa Associati — the Italian management agency, founded by the Brescia cardiologist Dr. Gabriele Rosa, that built the machinery behind three decades of Kenyan marathon running. The kit is made by Nike, the agency's official partner, and issued to the group's athletes and staff for training camps, travel and competition. It has never been sold at retail anywhere.
That makes it one of the strangest collectibles in athletics: kit that identifies not a country or a shoe brand, but a stable. The athletes who have worn the group's colours run from Moses Tanui and Paul Tergat to Beatrice Chebet and Jacob Kiplimo — who between them hold three current world records. Whatever leaves the group's channel — an athlete's spare, a camp clear-out — is the entire worldwide supply, which is why authentication matters here as much as with Nike Pro Elite proper.

Gabriele Rosa was a heart doctor before he was a coach. In 1981 he founded the Marathon Medical Center in Brescia, an early Italian sports-medicine clinic where physiology, testing and training plans lived under one roof — and through the 1980s he turned that clinical method onto the marathon. The Kenyan press would later call him “the father of Kenyan marathon running”; the description has stuck because no other single figure moved the event's centre of gravity the way he did.
His insight was structural: Kenya in 1990 was producing the world's best track and cross-country runners and almost no marathoners, because nobody scouted, housed and coached them for the roads. Rosa decided to build that system himself — and his son Federico, who today runs the agency as one of the sport's licensed athlete representatives, turned it into a family business.
The system got a name in 1991: Discovery Kenya, a scouting programme built to find raw distance talent and give it the conditions to win internationally. Its cross-country race in Eldoret — today run as the Nike Discovery Kenya Cross Country — reached its 35th edition in January 2026, and its alumni list reads like the sport itself: Eliud Kipchoge, Faith Kipyegon, Vivian Cheruiyot and Beatrice Chebet all came through it. As the race director put it, nearly all the champions Kenya celebrates ran Discovery first.
Around the race grew the camps. The original high camp at Kapsait sits at roughly 2,900 metres in the Marakwet hills — it operated for years as a Nike Athletics training camp — and a second camp followed at Kaptagat, closer to Eldoret. In 2023 the model crossed a border with Discovery Uganda. By the agency's own count, more than 200 elite athletes have come through the system; the verifiable record below needs no self-counting.
The programme's first product was Moses Tanui — world 10,000 m champion in Tokyo in 1991, and on 3 April 1993 in Milan, the first man in history to run a half marathon under one hour: 59:47. He added the world half marathon title in 1995 and two Boston Marathon wins in 1996 and 1998, then spent his retirement building races and camps of his own in Eldoret.

Five years after Tanui's barrier, his training partner took the record: Paul Tergat, 59:17 in Milan in 1998, in the middle of winning five straight world cross-country titles and two Olympic 10,000 m silvers. Then, on 28 September 2003 in Berlin, Tergat did what the whole system had been built for: 2:04:55, the marathon world record, the first man under 2:05. He went on to the IOC and eight years as president of Kenya's Olympic committee, stepping down in 2025 — the pipeline's first runner became its establishment.
Through the 2000s the group turned the World Marathon Majors into a production line. Margaret Okayo — managed by Federico, coached by Gabriele — won New York in 2001 and again in 2003 with a 2:22:31 course record that stood for twenty-two years, plus Boston 2002. Martin Lel, coached inside the group's structure by Claudio Berardelli, won London three times and New York twice; Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot, running out of the same Fila-era programme, won Boston four times.
The era's summit was Beijing 2008: Sammy Wanjiru, a Federico Rosa athlete, destroyed the Olympic marathon field in Olympic-record time to give Kenya its first Olympic marathon gold — a race still cited among the greatest ever run. Three years later Wanjiru was dead at 24, after a fall from the balcony of his home in Nyahururu that police never conclusively explained. It remains the deepest scar in the group's story.
The group's athletes have always raced in kit arranged through the agency, and the labels track its history. The early contracts ran through Italian brands — K-Way, then most visibly Fila: when Cheruiyot won Boston and Lel won New York in 2003, both did it in Fila Racer K1 racing shoes out of the Rosa programme. By the mid-2000s the relationship had moved to Nike, where it has stayed: Nike is the agency's official partner, gave its name to the Kapsait camp and still titles the Discovery cross-country in Eldoret.
The Rosa & Co. garments in this archive come from that Nike era — cycles from 2019 to 2024, heavy on the camp-and-travel layer that defines a management group's kit: half-zips, storm jackets, tracksuits, with racing singlets, crops and shorts underneath. None of it was ever retailed; it moved through the group's channel or not at all.

Brigid Kosgei, developed in the group's original high camp under coach Eric Kimaiyo, ran 2:14:04 in Chicago on 13 October 2019 — taking down Paula Radcliffe's sixteen-year-old world record and becoming the first woman under 2:15. The mark stood until 2023. Kosgei is still delivering at the top: on 1 March 2026 she won the Tokyo Marathon in 2:14:29, her fastest run since the record and her sixth Majors title, at 32.

Ruth Chepngetich, another Rosa-managed athlete, took the lineage further — world champion in Doha 2019, three Chicago wins, and on 13 October 2024 the first woman under 2:10: 2:09:56, still the official world record. In October 2025 she was banned for three years after testing positive for a diuretic, eligible again in April 2028; the record, set before the positive sample, stands in the books. Both facts belong in this story, and the next section faces the second one properly.

Athletes represented by the agency have produced some of the sport's biggest doping cases: Rita Jeptoo (EPO, ban raised to four years by CAS in 2016), Jemima Sumgong — Olympic marathon champion of Rio 2016 — (EPO, doubled to eight years for forged medical papers), Asbel Kiprop (EPO, four years) and now Chepngetich. In July 2016 Federico Rosa himself was charged in Nairobi in connection with the Jeptoo case; he denied everything, and that November the prosecution withdrew all charges. The CAS panel in Jeptoo's own case found she had hidden her doping from her management and coaching team, and coach Claudio Berardelli — by then moved on from the group — was acquitted by a Kenyan court in 2017.
The agency's side of the ledger: it announced independent, self-funded anti-doping testing for its Kenyan athletes back in 2015, before the storm broke, and no member of the Rosa family has ever been sanctioned by any anti-doping body. The honest summary is the uncomfortable one — the group that industrialised Kenyan marathoning has lived every side of what that industry became, including the one nobody wants.
The group's present is two athletes who own the record book between them. Beatrice Chebet — Discovery Kenya alumna, double Olympic champion in Paris over 5,000 m and 10,000 m, twice world cross-country champion — holds both track world records: 28:54.14 for the 10,000 m (Eugene 2024, first woman under 29 minutes) and 13:58.06 for the 5,000 m (Eugene 2025, first woman under 14).

Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda is the male half of the pair: half marathon world record holder at 57:20 (Lisbon, March 2026 — his faster 56:42 in Barcelona was never ratified after an illegal car draft), twice world cross-country champion, second in London on his marathon debut in 2025 and winner of Chicago that October in 2:02:23 — the seventh-fastest marathon ever run at the time. Thirty-five years after Gabriele Rosa first drove into the Rift Valley, the relay he started has never actually stopped.

It is issued to the group's athletes and staff for camps, travel and competition, and has never been sold at retail. The “Pro Elite” label is the collector market's name for athlete-issue kit of this kind.
An Italian sports management agency built by Dr. Gabriele Rosa, a Brescia cardiologist who founded the Marathon Medical Center in 1981 and the Discovery Kenya talent programme in 1991. His son Federico Rosa runs the agency today. Its athletes have included Moses Tanui, Paul Tergat, Margaret Okayo, Sammy Wanjiru, Brigid Kosgei, Beatrice Chebet and Jacob Kiplimo.
Three current world records sit in the group as of July 2026: Beatrice Chebet's 5,000 m (13:58.06) and 10,000 m (28:54.14), and Jacob Kiplimo's half marathon (57:20, Lisbon 2026). Ruth Chepngetich's 2:09:56 marathon also remains the official women's record, though she is serving a three-year ban imposed in October 2025.
Athletes represented by the agency have been sanctioned — Rita Jeptoo, Jemima Sumgong, Asbel Kiprop and Ruth Chepngetich among them. Federico Rosa was charged in Kenya in 2016 in connection with the Jeptoo case; he denied the charges and the prosecution withdrew them in November 2016. The CAS panel found Jeptoo had hidden her doping from her management, and no member of the Rosa family has ever been sanctioned by an anti-doping body. The agency announced independent testing of its athletes in 2015.
Wanjiru, a Federico Rosa athlete, won Kenya's first Olympic marathon gold in Beijing 2008 in Olympic record time. He died on 15 May 2011, aged 24, after falling from the balcony of his home in Nyahururu; investigators never conclusively established what happened.
Structure over branding: competition-weight Nike construction, era-correct labels, and scarcity consistent with a team channel — genuine group kit never exists in every size. Our step-by-step authentication guide covers the tells; every piece in the Elite Athletics Clothes archive is verified against it before listing.
A rotating archive of 31 team-issued pieces from the 2019 to 2024 Nike cycles — singlets, crops, shorts, half-zips, storm jackets, tracksuits and caps. Stock is whatever has surfaced from the group's channel; when a piece sells it does not return.
